INTRODUCTION
Contamination
of water by water bodies and other harmful substances is termed as water
pollution. Water is getting more and more polluted day by day due to increasing
human activity like bathing, washing cloth in river etc. Consumption of
polluted water may cause cholera, diarrhea, typhoid etc. Each year around 3
million people die due to drinking polluted water. Polluted water affects human
life but adversely affect aquatic life, each year many aquatic animals lose
their lives due to human activities. I think fish is the unluckiest aquatic
animal; fish have to die in any way if fish get able to survive polluted water
than human will kill them for full filling their own stomach. Sometimes
polluted water give positive effect to plants (like rapid growth) and sometimes
it’s give negative effect to plant. (like brown leaf, Leaf spots, Anthracnose, etc.)
Four Major Causes Of Water Pollution
Industrial wastes- is the major reason
for water pollution, billions of industry discharge their chemical like lead,
mercury and other harmful substances into the river or ocean. The chemicals
discharge by the industry is very harmful for the human as well as environment.
Area where water is much polluted due to industrial waste there should more prone
to decrease in lifespan.
Dumping - Discharging
Domestic waste, Plastic, and other non-biodegradable substances into the river
is great mentality of people. Dumping mainly affect the aquatic plants and
animals. Nowadays people are throwing dead body into the river. The garbage
which is dumped into the ocean tends to have harmful chemical substances which
lead to die of aquatic animals. According to a report, around 1 million aquatic
animals die due to water pollution every year.
Acid rain – As we all know about
how dangerous is acid rain. The possible pH of acid rain is 4.0 and the pH of
normal rain is 5.6. The pH value of drinking water is between 6.5 to 8.5. Acid
rain not only pollutes the water, but also causes the death of aquatic animals.
Sewage – Every day we use water
for cooking food, bathing, washing cloth, etc. And all the used water by us is
dumped into the river. This can also lead to death of aquatic animals. Due to
this type of activity nowadays we can't drink river water directly. And if any
thirsty animal will drink that water then the animal will surely die.
Effects of Water
Pollution
In Mumbai everyone are
shocked after seeing the blue color dog. Now some people visited NAVI MUMBAI
ANIMAL RESCUE to know the mystery behind the blue color dog. Then NAVI MUMBAI
ANIMAL RESCUE organization started to research about this and after all they found
that all the hungry dog went to Kasadi river in search of food and that river
is very acidic because all the industry discharge their waste into that river.
When The dog jumped into the
river their skin color changed due to some reaction. In quality checkup it has
been found that BOD (BIO CHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND) in Kasadi River is 80mg per
liter. And If the BOD level of any river is 6 mg per liter than no aquatic
animal can survive there and if the BOD level of any river is 3mg per liter
than the water is not drinkable. Now you can imagine how harmful polluted water
is.
